- Even if your employer is paying for your move, you can keep it for future use.

- Pack your books in small boxes rather than in one big box.

- At times, temporary storage can be really helpful. But before you hire a storage service, there are a lot of things that needs your consideration. You must be sure that you can pay the monthly rent of the storage. Otherwise, your belongings will be confiscated.
- An alternate option is to use your credit card for the recurring monthly costs; but make sure that you will be able to pay off the balance in full each month.
- Make an investigation about the storage company and then decide whether to avail their service or not.
- Consider the reputation of the company, whether their storage units are climate controlled or not.
- Do they provide 24 - hours access a day. This is an important key attribute in deciding the storage company.
- If you a renting a truck, check with them first. Do they have any pricing with any storage company?
- Sometimes, storage is provided for as little a cost with a minimum contract of two months.

- If you are adventurous enough then you can move for yourself. Rent the truck weeks before your move.
- Compare the rentals of various trucks to get the best price.
- While you are booking a truck, you need to care about some of the hidden costs, like that of the dropping of the truck in different city or location from where it was rented.
- Remember to consult your insurance agent before you reserve a rental truck service for yourself. Check with him if your Homeowner’s Insurance will cover any damage to your furniture and your Auto Insurance will cover the truck or not.
- One more thing that you should remember while renting a truck is that you will be responsible for paying for the gas in the truck which can be an exorbitant cost with the current gas price.
- Remember to ask the company the average mile-per-gallon of the truck when you are reserving it.
Other Matters
- Remember to cancel all your utility services and re-connect it at your new address.
- Remember to collect all the deposited money while canceling these services; you might need it as deposit in your new address.
- Make sure that the services are disconnected after the day you move. This may incur a few extra dollars, but these companies generally do not ensure a cut off time.
- If you are moving to a subdivision or condominium complex that has private trash collecting service, then you may be charged for the pick-up of your boxes.
- You may donate these boxes to your neighbor by conducting a sale. Put a “For Sale” notice in the front of the door.
- In addition to canceling and starting of utilities, you should also convey your change of address to the following institutions and persons:
